ABOUT ME:

Singer and Songwriter:

I was born in Paisley, Scotland. My parents moved to South Africa when I was 4 years old.

I’ve tried my hand at all sorts of musical genres, but it’s the sound of my ancestors – Scottish Traditional and Folk music – that I love, and I try to incorporate something of this sound into the songs that I write by using traditional Scottish instruments like Bagpipes and Tin Whistle, or using Scottish/Celtic folklore as my subject matter. My songs are regularly played on Celtic Music Radio, Blues and Roots Radio and many others.

From 2017 to 2019 I ran a successful Celtic show in Cape Town called ‘Christine and the Kilts’. In 2021 I launched a Celtic music podcast called ‘Under the Kilt’ on Fine Music Radio; this was nominated for Best Podcast in the South African Radio Awards 2021.

In September 2023 I performed in my homeland for the first time at the Dunbar Music Festival.

Singing Teacher:

I currently give 1:1 singing lessons to all levels of singers in London, UK. I help with audition preparation, graded exams, and also those who just want to sing for the fun of it.

I also teach at various singing institutions in London like City Academy, and London College of Performing Arts.

I am qualified to teach LAMDA Musical Theatre Syllabus, and I am up to date with all the Contemporary Commercial Vocal Techniques; I have a Dip LCM voice (TD), Estill Level 1 and 2 certificates and I’m in the process of completing my Estill Figure Proficiency Certificate. In addition to this I am Certified in Lovetri Somatic Voicework Level 1, 2, and 3.

In 2017 I self-published a book on singing techniques called “Shut your Trap and Sing!” and with 3 decades of performing behind me, I have a lot of first-hand knowledge to pass on.

I offer a free, half an hour, online or in person, introductory session where you can try out a class and ask me any questions about my classes or my teaching methods to decide if this is something that you want to proceed with. Please fill in the contact form below if you want to get in touch, or simply email me on weirchristine@gmail.com. Hope to see you soon!
